Monsignor Schnacky Community Players

 
 



  In 1981, new parishioners Kathy and Travis Piper invited Monsignor Schnacky to dinner. The Pipers had met through Community Theatre. During the evening, it was mentioned that perhaps, someday, it might be fun to put on a Play at St. Catherines.


   The next weekend, a brief item appeared in the bulletin: "Travis and Kathy Piper have volunteered to put on a play here at St. Catherines". When asked about the write-up, Monsignor smiled and said "Save me a small part!" ... The rest is history.


   Each year, nearly 100 people get involved with our productions. Some are parishoners, some are non-Catholics, some are friends of friends. All are people interested in having fun and meeting new people.


   We put on one play a year in the Monsignor Schnacky Community Center. The shows in recent years have an overall Melodrama theme but include musical numbers and humorous skits. Rehearsals take place during the winter months which really makes the winter fly by. We write most of our own material and are always looking for new scripts and ideas.    We start work on the musical numbers Sunday afternoons in November and "open" mid-February for three fun-filled weekends.

    * A loving, caring community of people who like to have fun!

  In our Twenty-Six years of productions, the Monsignor Schnacky Community Players “Outreach” has involved over 500 participants and reached over 30,000 attendees.


Our shows have involved persons of many faiths --and of no faith. We pray as a group before every performance


    * Thank you for bringing this wonderful “family” together again

    * Thank you for the talents you have given each of us

    * Please help us to put on a great show tonight

    * We pray that it will brighten the lives of those in the audience

What has happened?


  1. * We’ve had participants become Catholics

  3. *We’ve had marriages

  4. *We’ve had births

  5. *We’ve had babies born, grow up in the group and go onstage

  6. *We presented a “golden hammer” award to a “set constructor” of over twenty years

  7. *We had a proposal of marriage onstage!


  9. We need you to help us:


    * Set up the stage

    * Paint/decorate the set

    * Sew costumes

    * Distribute publicity

    * Sell tickets

   * Make yummy dishes for our crew

    * Put on our makeup

    * Gather and play sound effects

    * Put up lights

    * Help with Props

    * Videotape our Productions

    * As servers during the performances


Come join us this season and make some wonderful friends, enjoy yourself, do some good for others and before you know it, it will be Spring!
